The Virgin Tour-1985

Madonna’s first concert tour appropriately called “The Virgin Tour”, in a dual reference to her second studio album “Like a virgin” and her losing her virginity on stage sort of speak , playing stadiums and arenas for the first time, in order to support her first two studio albums.

Nowadays Madonna is considered one of the most enduring, fun, controversial and versatile entertainers, recently earning the title for the most successful tour for a solo artist for The Sticky and Sweet Tour, however back in the early days it’s a whole different story. Madonna as a performer still had a lot to learn and her vocal perfomances were far from perfect, but her dancing skills are like heaven to watch and the energy she delivered on stage it’s contagious. This tour witnessed the process of Madonna becoming an icon and the start of the term “wannabe”, as every night Madonna performed, thousands of girls in the audience payed homage to her, dressing up as their idol, igniting a true Madonnamania across the country.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, The Virgin Tour was a complete sucess, selling 100% of the available tickets. The Virgin Tour only played North America and featured 13 numbers, but “Angel”, “Borderline” and “Burning up” were omitted on the official VHS version, and with no DVD release so far, it is uncertain whether these three preformances will ever be seen.
