“La isla bonita” is Madonna’s 17th overall single and 15th in the United States. The fifth and final single from “True blue”, features Spanish inspired production, as well as some lyrics in Spanish as well. This would become a recurrent theme in Madonna’s songs and was one of the first English-speaking performers who dared to sing in Spanish, a trend that would take no time to be imitated by many pop stars. It’s no brainer, since this song became another huge hit for Madonna, her 11th consecutive Top 5 single in the US and her 4th number one single in the UK, an incredible feat, since it was already the 5th single. It has been performed on five concert tours, and probably is the most re-invented live song by Madonna, along with Holiday.

“Open your heart” is Madonna’s 16th overall single and 14th in the United States. The fourth single from “True blue”, it became another big hit for Madonna, the 5th number one single in the United States, and only fourth single to reach the top. Originally written for Cyndi Lauper, which also had a single charting on the top 10 along with “Open your heart”, coincidentally named “Change of heart”, it was offered to Madonna and she ended up changing some songs lyrics and transformed the rock and roll demo into a pop-dance song to fit her style. The song was well received, not so much for the video, which raised a few eyebrows. Madonna’s personification of a peep-show dancer who plays the object of desire for men hidden in booths and her kissing on the lips to a young boy, made a few headlines. The ultimate message of the video is again, female empowerment and that she can have a sexual persona but also enjoys it in a free manner. Either way, it’s among Madonna’s classic videos, and it had a nomination for the Best Female Video at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards,  losing to “Papa don’t preach”, also by Madonna.

“True blue” is Madonna’s 15th overall single and 13th in the United States. The third cut from “True blue”, it is a light-hearted, easy romantic tune, probably Madonna’s most romantic song to date. Inspired by the Motown girl groups from the 50’s and 60’s, it was kind of a Valentine’s day present to her husband at the time Sean Penn. It was a succesful single, becoming her third number one single in the UK, but to this day it’s another one of those Madonna forgotten hits. She only performed it at The Who’s that girl Tour, when she was still married to Sean Penn. It hasn’t been included in any of Madonna’s Greatest Hits either.
