“Keep it together” is Madonna’s 27th single and 22th in the United States. It’s the 6th and final single from her 4th studio album “Like a prayer”, and as such it was a minor hit for Madonna. With the lack of a music video it still it managed to reach the Top 10 in the US (the 18th Top 10 single for Madonna) and it even reached number one in Australia, but mainly because it was featured as the B-side of Vogue. This song is Madonna’s take on family issues, and it also features autobiographical lyrics, while musically it has been compared to Sly and the family Stone and Sister Sledge. This would be the last time Madonna and long time collaborator Stephen Bray would work together.

The amazing performance Madonna gave for this song at the Blond Ambition Tour certainly makes me forget there wasn’t a music video to promote the song. I still rank it as one of Madonna’s most memorable renditions ever, a clever homage to “A Clockwork Orange” and “Cabaret” mixed with the initial notes of “Family affair” by Sly and the Family Stone.
