“Spotlight” is Madonna’s 21th overall single and it was the first and only single released from “You can dance”, although it was only issued in Japan, where it hit the Top 5 on the International Singles chart. In the US however, it only charted on the Hot 100 Airplay Chart, reaching a peak of #32. At the time it was not eligible to chart on the Hot 100, due to the lack of a physical release. Spotlight sounds and feels like an early Madonna track, and very reminiscent of “Holiday”, the reason could be that one of its co-writers, Curtis Hudson also has co-writing credits here. Overall it’s really not an outstanding track, but fits very well as the introduction to “You can dance”.
