“Oh father” is Madonna’s 25th overall single and 21th in the United States. It’s the fourth single from, “Like a prayer”. This song follows the opposite direction of the previous single. While “Cherish” had a lighthearted theme, Madonna here deals with serious stuff and gives a compelling rendition to autobiographical lyrics while showing a true vulnerability. Without a doubt this is one of Madonna’s most bravest choices for a single, and even though it was not a huge hit, compared with anyone’s standars, it did pretty well, reaching Top 20 in the US and UK, and even Top 10 in Finland and Italy. Sadly, it also ended Madonna’s incredible streak of 17 consecutive Top 10 hits, and 16 consecutive Top 5 hits, but as a reward, we got an amazing black and white video shot by David Fincher, and the general audience became aware to a very different side of Madonna.
