“Who’s that girl” is Madonna’s 18th overall single and 16th in the United States. It’s the first single from the soundtrack to the movie of the same name, which unfortunately didn’t go well at the Box office. Musically, on the other hand, it kept Madonna’s success on the charts, becoming her 6th number one single in the US and fifth in the UK, making her the first female to sum six Billboard chart toppers. Following the same path “La isla bonita” did, this single features lyrics in spanish, as well as typical hispanic instrumentation. While a big hit, at the time it was not recognized as her best material and in 2009 it was finally included in Celebration, Madonna’s all-career greatest hits package. It earned nominations for Best song for a motion picture at the 1988 Grammy Awards and Best original Song at the 1988 Golden Globes.
