“Dress you up” is Madonna’s 11th single release and was the fourth and final single from “Like a virgin”. It was another hit for Madonna, as it became her 6th consecutive Top 5 single, and 7th top 10 single, but had a short longevity, spending only 3 weeks at the Top 10. This was one of the omitted hit singles in the Immaculate Collection, but ended up getting its place in Madonna’s last greatest hits package “Celebration”. It didn’t get a proper video and the live performance of the song in the Virgin Tour was used to promote it.

It had a big cultural impact, as the lyrics to the song were deemed unsuitable for minors, and was included in the infamous “Filthy Fifteen” list, created by Tipper Gore of the Parents Music Resource Center. These people of course had nothing better to do than to spend their time listening to pop and rock music and according to their conservative criteria, judging what was suitable or not for minors, thus leading to the “Parental Advisory” sticker, found in many future Madonna albums and singles. The video is the living proof of the rampant Madonnamania at the time.
