“Love don’t live here anymore” was chosen as the second and final single released from Madonna’s Greatest Ballad Hits compilation “Something to remember” in the USA. It is her 46th international single release overall and 38th in the United States. Originally this song was recorded for Madonna’s second studio album “Like a virgin”, and it only got a limited single release in Japan in 1986, however noting that this one is a favorite from her, it was not only included in the compilation, but also remixed and reworked for the occasion, in detriment of “One more chance” that only got a limited European and Australian release.

Unfortunately, this song didn’t exactly set the charts on fire, due to the dark and somber nature of the song, it failed to appeal to wide audiences and did not chart on the Singles and Airplay chart, however it did manage to enter the Billboard Hot 100 and at the time it became Madonna’s lowest peaking single landing at #78. The video was directed by her long time collaborator Jean-Baptiste Mondino, responsible for “Open your heart”, “Justify my love” and “Human nature”. It was filmed in Buenos Aires while Madonna was in location filming Evita and in the early months of her pregnancy. It’s the only Madonna video shot in one single frame.
