“Cherish” is Madonna’s 24th overall single and 20th in the United States. It’s the third single from her 4th studio album, “Like a prayer”, and suffered the same fate as her previous single “Express yourself” peaking again at number 2 for two weeks, behind “Miss you much” by Janet Jackson, but at the same time it became her 16th consecutive Top 5 single on the Billboard Hot 100, a record that still stands undeafeated to this day. The release of “Cherish” lacked any controversial aspect, at the contrary, it’s probably the most romantic love song Madonna released since “True blue”. The video shot by the late photographer Herb Ritts, features men dressed and mermen, while Madonna sings playfully at the beach shore, portraying them as the objects of desire for women. “Cherish” was a hit also at the Adult Contemporary chart giving Madonna her third number one single on that chart.
