“Angel” is Madonna’s 9th US single release and third from the album “Like a Virgin”. Originally planned to be the first single from Madonna’s sophomore album, she changed her mind after recording the title track and ended up being the third single, but at the same time it is one of Madonna’s most forgotten hits, even though it became her fifth Top Five consecutive single. It was even left off from The Immaculate Collection. Madonna at the time may had suffered from over exposure and that is why there was no video made for this single. Madonna eas also busy at the time rehearsing for “The Virgin Tour”. In fact, this single was released the same day the tour kicked off.

Lyrically, the song deals with a girl falling in love with an angel that at the same time is her saviour, co-written with Madonna’s ex lover Steve Bray, this is the only single from Like a virgin to have Madonna on the credits. It has only been performed on Madonna’s first tour and that performance was never included in the final VHS version, so to this day, the ones who were not there to see it live it remains buried. No performance has ever leaked on the internet either.
